Vern Yip, Designer

If Trading Spaces were a Western, the smallest designer would wear the biggest white hat. Always gallant and laid-back, the heroic Vern typically arrives in town a full day early, eager to please another pair of homeowners.

Vern is known for his friendly smile and precisely ordered rooms. He can often be seen doing a two-toned room or tedious installation in a crisply tailored muscle shirt. "I hate excess fabric. It looks messy, not clean."

He has a talent for scouting great deals and is remembered for his feng shui mirrored room.

Q: Where can I find the hands and sconces for the giant wall clock?

A: Good news and bad news on this one. The hands can be found at www.chiasso.com or at a Chiasso retail store if there happens to be one in your area. The sconces, however, were a bargain basement steal at a Pottery Barn outlet and would be hard to find again. But there are so many things you could susbtitute!

Q: Why is there tension between you and Ty?

A: Believe it or not, Ty and I are friends and both live in Atlanta. Remember that it is much easier to joke with and tease someone you are buds with than someone that you are not comfortable with. Ty is a cool dude and a talented carpenter who had no problem with me building the doors in Seattle and I had no problem building them.
