Frank Episode Guide

Frank Bielec, Designer

Frank's signature style is down-home country clutter with an emphasis on crafts and personal expression. He's likely to include folksy murals, banged up furniture, and even clothespins in his designs.

With a fondness for glue sticks, paint and chickens, we notice that Frank's making a turn towards more contemporary room designs of late.

For Frank, Trading Spaces is much more about the people and less about the design. He's very intuitive with his homeowners' wants and enjoys their input.

Q: If you could decorate a room in the home of any famous person living or dead, who would you most like to work with?

A: I would love to do a room for Mae West. My team would be Mohandas Gandhi and Leonardo da Vinci. That way we would have one team member who could keep calm, and one team member who could paint.

Q: Frank, if you could have another designer from the show redecorate a room in your house, who would you choose and why?

A: I would choose Ty. He knows design, and he could also build what he has in mind.

Q: On one show, I thought I heard you say that you had worked as a florist. What other occupations, if any, did you have before becoming a designer?
Teresa

A: I have worked as a florist, schoolteacher, commercial artist and exercise instructor — yes, Teresa, I used to be a hottie like Ty, but then growth and age took over. It's a sad story!

Q: Do you have any kids? You just seem like the kind of guy that would relate to his kids and have fun with them.

A: My wife and I have a son named Matthew. I love to be around children and young people because they make you realize that life is there — use it — love it — and never close yourself in and become judgmental. All things change, sometimes for the good, sometimes not. Children and the young adapt to this and live the moment. Nice idea.

Q: How do you respond to negative reactions to your designs on Trading Spaces?

A: If the individual is justified, I try to learn from their opinion. If not, I pout!
