Douglas Wilson, Designer

Doug's style mixes East Village retro-glam with a bit of traditionalism. He's known for groovy living lounges, risky art projects... and making homeowners cry.

Usually seen in fitted button-down shirts and leather pants, Doug is known for his razor-sharp quips and working titles for every room (such as A Pretty Room by Doug).

Some say his worst idea was putting stadium seating in a family room.

Q: Just wanted to say that I think you're a fantastic designer and I look forward to watching any show you're in. Just one question: If you could have any TS designer design your room, who would it be and why?

A: Hildi. She would do what I told her to do!

Q: I watch Trading Spaces all the time and you are by far my favorite designer. I was wondering which is your favorite era in design? What inspires you?

A: Much of my influence comes from the 30's - 40's, Jean Michal Frank and his contemporaries. Note how often I use squares and geometrics with the combination of wood and earth tones.

Q: Which of the other designers' work do you most admire and why?

A: Hildi, for her classic sophistication and sexy style.
