Hilda Santos-Tomas, Designer

Hildi's style is modern sophisticate with a twist. She is best known for using charcoal coloured paint, straw and covering walls with fabric.

Hildi can often be seen wearing expensive Prada pumps while staple-gunning flowers, felt, and anything else that can stick to a wall.

While other designers wait anxiously for the reveal, Hildi often skips this part. In her mind, her work is done. She already knows the room is fabulous.

Her famous (or infamous rooms) include:

  • silk flower bathroom
  • quadrant living room (purple & gray)
  • straw walls living room
  • circus tent family room

Her love of design began as a child. Originally from Raleigh, N.C., Hilda is now based in Atlanta.

  • Born: April 4, 1961
  • Raised: Raleigh, North Carolina
  • Adopted Hometown: Paris, France
  • Annoying Habit: Being neat and organized
  • For Fun: Painting, drawing, and cooking
  • Known For Arguing with the help and flirting with Ty.

Q: Hilda,
I love your style and you always make things look cool and modern. Where do you get your ideas? Did you go to designing school?

A: I see design in everything, everyday. I look at things differently. That leads to creativity for me. I did not go to design school.

Q: How do you work in such high heels? And how is it that you never get anything on your black tops?

A: My shoes ground me and I am used to wearing heels morning, day or night. A clean space is a happy space and I try to keep my paint mishaps to a minimum.

Q: If you had to pick one of the designers from the show to redo a room in your house, who would you pick?
Nancy

A: Myself.
