from Trading Spaces Behind The Scenes

Genevieve Gorder, Designer

Gen loves to build a room based on passion for a person, place or thing. She is known for her love nests and girls' rooms.

Often seen wearing a black T-shirt and Diesel jeans, Gen likes to include cropped photographs and kindergarden art in her rooms.

Her faux pas include moss walls for allergy-sufferers and blowing her budget on shipping costs.

However, her talent is in finding inspiration from everyday things -- this is where she shines. Anything from an artichoke to a Scrabble board game is fair game.

"We were awkward with the cameras at first, but then Gen is so easy to be with. She listens in a way that's so completely undivided, you feel chemistry. Soon it was like we were all just friends hanging out, having regular conversations, and the cameras just happened to be rolling." - homeowner

"I originally thought that I was going to become an ambassador (giggle), it wasn't until my second year at Lewis & Clark College that I realized I was supposed to be a designer. It just found me, I just knew. It's like when people tell you about how they met their spouse for the first time, and within minutes "they just knew", it was like that for me with design."

If you could redo any celebrity's room who would it be?
Björk — She's the coolest

If you were stranded on an island what or whom would you take with you? Prince and D'Angelo .. mm .. not the CD's. (Need I say more?)

Most outrageous thing you've ever done or bought yourself or someone else: I dressed up like the virgin Madonna for New Year's 2000 in Barcelona and I ran down the street and the crowd parted and I was brought on stage by the folks at the Cirque d'Soleil. It was so cool!

Q: I have one question for you and that is Why on every episode do you go shoeless? Are you not worried about stepping on something and hurting those delicate feet?

A: Congratulations Kevin! You've just won $1,000,000 for being the billionth person to ask me this very question! Yeah! Nah, I'm joking with you Kev, the reason I don't wear shoes often, is out of pure practicality. I like my shoes. I like my shoes a lot. My shoes are pretty. If I were to wear them on the show, I would ruin every pair I have. My feet, however, are washable. And, to set the record straight, my feet are anything but "delicate." I played soccer for way too long. We can all pretend that they're cute though, that would be nice.
